Why Is K-POP So Popular?

16 NOVEMBER 2020 – As the world of Hallyu continues its enormous growth amongst many individuals of the world, it is no surprise on how K-POP has taken over the world by storm. With the mentioning of K-POP, many people tend to think of “Gangnam Style” by PSY. However, K-POP is so much more than that.

With their creative and futuristic approaches to music videos, the hard work from production and planning sets K-POP apart from other genres of music.

1. Storytelling and Visuals

With the visuals that many K-POP music videos produce, it is no surprise that each video holds a story. Many K-POP groups love to include theories of mystery that keeps the fans wanting more! K-POP has gained a massive number of fans by using strong storytelling skills in their songs. A great example is the South Korean girl group, LOONA, that includes theories of their lore, the “LOONAVERSE”.

With their creative usage of costumes and color palettes portrayed in the music videos, K-POP has started the trend of burgeoning art and aesthetic scenes. Most music videos produced are heavily thought out and heavily refined. With the usage of effects, make up, and outfits, every small detail serves towards a theme and vision.

2. Personality

Many K-POP idols have unique and quirky personalities. Many of them take self-expression as a form of art. They project their fun and extravagant personalities through many variety shows hosted on cable networks. Many fans feel content as they can connect with their idols.

3. Fashion

As K-POP takes the world by storm, it is no surprise that its fashion does too. Korean style has brought a whole new level towards many trends. Many outfits worn by idols have surpassed Western artists in terms of originality and uniqueness. Stylists for K-POP artists are never afraid to express their style.

A great example would be the fashion icon, G-Dragon. A member of the South Korean boy group, Big Bang, and solo artist. He is well-known for his amazing musical talent and trendsetting skills.
